Home Theater Recommendations
August 30, 2022
I setup this home theater in the fall of 2020. The BenQ TK850 is a mid-throw 4K projector. My model came with the Android TV. There were some complaints that the fan can run loudly, and I agree. There have been some occasions where the projector was running warm and the fan kicked in. However, the speaker in the projector was more than loud enough to drown out the noise of the fan.
I must admit that having a built-in speaker works out fantastically! Though it's no match for a surround sound audio system, it works for my family. We don't need extra loud surround sound. Having the projector immediately front and center helps project the sound.
This is the projector screen I bought. It has lasted two years with no mechanical failures. It was a bit of work to setup the screen because I have vaulted ceilings. However, purchasing some ceiling fan rods from Home Depot and cutting down to the proper length did the trick.
I recommend getting a 4K Roku Stick for a setup like this, since the Android TV only has Amazon Prime Video but no Netflix. You can use Google Cast to cast videos from your laptop to the Android TV. That'll save you the need to get a 4K Roku Stick.
